The adult Red-tipped Clearwing moth is on the wing between late May and early July. It is very local in Warwickshire but where it does occur, it can sometimes be seen in good numbers. Brandon Marsh is a realiable site for the species. Wetland sites where the larval foodplants occur are the best place to look for this species.

Larval Foodplants

The larval foodplants are Sallow (Salix spp.), osier (Salix viminalis). The larvae feed in the trunck and stems of the larval foodplant.

Pheromone lures can be purchased from Anglian Lepidoterists Supplies.

Distribution

The maps below suggest that Red-tipped Clearwing is a rare and very local species. However, the use of pheromone lures is likely to identify other localities in the region over the next few years.
